Glossogobius celebius EW-MAL 12-09

Biotope EW-MAL 12-09, a typical goby habitat, rather close to the river mouth.

Rungus Longhouse; Bavanggazo Kampung (means Village); a typical house type of the indigenous Rungus tribe.

The Celebes Goby Glossogobius celebius was freqent; usually hiding among the rocks.

Fishes of the Glossogobius celebius-complex constitute a difficult taxonomic assemblage; they are spread in fresh and brackish waters all over SE Asia and Oceania.

Stilted Rungus Longhouse at Bavanggazo Village.

Floors and walls are made of bamboo.

At the time of presence we did not see any other tourists.

Rungus Longhouses are traditionally build on stilts. These houses are located in Kudat District. Some rungus still maintain their ancient ethnic way of life and with a little luck one can see Rungus people wearing traditional costumes made of hand-grown and made-spun cotton.

Considered a tourists attraction we expected hordes of people, souvenir stores and all the related inevitable stuff. Fortunately, we encountered no tourist, but relaxing silence, just a couple of chicken pawing in the sand. There is no entrance admission required.

The Tip of Borneo - Tanjung Simpang Mengayau

The Top of Borneo is the northernmost point of insular Borneo, also located in Kudat District. This is where the South China Sea from the west meets the Sulu Sea from the east. There is no entrance admission required. Enjoy the stunning view!

The ‘perfect’ beach and crystal blue water. There were just two local ladies fishing.

Brachyuran crab of the family Matutidae; a female of Ashtoret lunaris carrying eggs below the carapax.

The crab was burying itself into the wet tidal sand with amazing speed. Just three seconds later the crab was entirely gone.
