Pamphorichthys hollandi (Henn 1916)
A miniature poeciliid from the middle stream of the Rio São Francisco
Among others I caught Pamphorichthys hollandi syntop with Hyphessobrycon micropterus in the habitat E-BR 33-07 located near to the road MG181 (Minas Gerais 181) in the Rio São Francisco drainage. The habitat was densely planted. In the intermediate space there were plenty of fish travelling from one shelter to another. Pamphorichthys hollandi dwells directly below water level and was easily determined by the blueish blazing eyes (see middle of the picture below).

There are currently 5 species allocated in the genus Pamphorichthys erected by REGAN in 1913. Pamphorichthys originates from Greek and means “fertile fish”.
According to HIERONIMUS (Email) Pamphorichthys hollandi is delicate when it comes to aquarium maintenance.
