|
Barbus anoplus, better known under its vernacular chubbyhead barb, is a common fish in this region.
For the time being I am unable to identify this barb. It seems to be a juvenile of a larger Labeobarbus.
The common platanna, Xenopus laevis, is widely known to aquarists all over the world. This is its natural habitat.

|
On the road R66 southwards, between Magudu and Nongoma.
Cacosternum nanum, the Bronze Caco, a small anura which seems to be very common in KwaZulu-Natal.
Biotope E-ZA 07-09; Nkunzana River; river serves as a washing place for the nearby Zulu villages.
The Zulu King is living not far from the spot. A friendly English speaking Zulu named Bheki helped me fishing.
The best spot during this trip.
Barbus trimaculatus Peters, 1852 from Nkunzana River.
I am unable to ID this species for the time being; Caridina typus, C. nilotica or C. africana.
