Subfamily Gobioninae

Cladogram Gobioninae

Cladogram:

Figure 1 shows a simplified cladogram of the subfamily Giobioninae. Genera Ladislavia, Parasqualidus, Pseudopungtungia and Coreoleuciscus are not considered but belong to Gobioninae. Gobioninae is divided into 5 tribes; Hemibarbini, Coreiini, Sarcocheilichthyini, Gobionini and Pseudogobionini.

There are different probabilities for monophyly in each tribe. Tribe Hemibarbini seems to be monophyletic. Coreiini (monogeneric) forms an isolated tribe (BANARESCU, 1992). Sarcocheilichthyini seems to be polyphyletic; Pseudorasbora elongata seems to be more closely related to Pungtungia herzi than to Ps. parva, while Gobionini is monophyletic. The monophyly of Pseudogobionini is not well supported (YANG et al., 2006).

Subfamily Gobioninae seems to be more closely related to Leuciscinae than to Cyprininae within the family Cyprinidae.
